Cam tapped her pencil against book and bit her lip. Math really wasn't her issue, many musicians were good with math. There was a certainly measure and percentage to those sorts of things. But literature really had her stumped. Picking out themes shouldn't be so difficult. She taken out her head phones, in order to focus, but all she could think about the piece she was supposed to learn for an upcoming recital in Australia over the break.
Cameron sighed and looked back at her complete works of Shakespeare book and huffed at all the post-its between the pages that she couldn't figure out. There were so many. She stuck her earbuds back in and pulled out her laptop and typed in no fear shakespeare. That might help right?
She found herself moving in her chair in reaction to the music, her fingers moving along her pencil like the strings or the bow of her cello. What she wouldn't give to be practicing at that moment instead of this.

Emmaline walked into the Library, pulling at her jumper, she tugged it further down her body. Emma nervously walked into the library, wondering how many people would actually be there. She pulled her hat off and shoved it into her bag. She glanced around for a moment, before approaching Cameron. A girl she knew from the orchestra. She was sure the girl played cello.
“Hello Cameron” she said softly. She fiddled with a piece of her hair, twirling it around her finger and letting it bounce back into it's natural curl. “May I sit?” she asked, she felt that she would be more comfortable around the girl she already kind of knew. Plus Cameron seemed nice. She didn't really know though. She stood awkwardly waiting for Cameron to give approval, her fingers running down the straps of her bag.
“How's your studies going?” she asked trying to make a little conversation. She'd come into the library to revise for science, it was definitely one of her worse subjects. If anything her best subject was Music, but to carry on with the orchestra, she needed a GPA of 3.7 or more, and if science made her slip down too far, she'd loose the only thing she really enjoyed except from the actual class time she had in Music.
“Do you know when the next practice is – for orchestra?” she asked, again trying to make conversation, she also believed that Cameron was in the same year as her sister.

At the sound of her name, Cam looked up. The girl was very pretty, and definitely familiar. What was her name? She was in the orchestra though, Cam remembered that. "Hi, just call me Cam, really." She said with a little nod, still a little shaken from her mental other world. Cam gestured to a seat, indicating that she was welcome to join her.
Cam chuckled softly, "Well, they'd be going better if I understood Shakespeare." She said shaking her head and patting the pages of her book gently. "How about you, Emma?" She asked, suddenly remembering the girls name. Cam smiled, glad she wouldn't have to admit to forgetting.
"Um..." Cam's eyebrows furrowed and she pulled up her calendar on her laptop, then double checked in her paper planner. "This Thursday at 7pm." She read, running a slim finger under the line in her book. Cameron offered a smile at Emmaline. She would probably agree on the fact that it would be better to be at orchestra than here trying to work.
Everything seemed so dull compared to music.

“Hey... Cam” she tried it out. She wasn't really familiar enough with many people to be on nickname terms with others. It made her smile a little bit. She pulled the seat out, and set the bag down beside it, and pulled a book of her own out. She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, and picked up her own pen.
“Shakespeare is hard” she agreed. “I'm struggling with Science myself. I just don't understand physics” she sighed, but gave Cam a small smile. She opened her mouth to go and say 'It's Emmaline' but Cam had allowed her to call her by her nickname, and Emma was a lot easier to say. She bit the nail of her thumb, flicking it through her teeth.
“Thanks” she grinned, she realised that while she had remembered the day, she'd thought it was at 6pm. “I should probably write that down” she mused. She unlocked her phone, and tapped the date and time into the virtual calander. She looked down at the question in front of her, then back at Cam. “You play Cello right?” she asked, trying to picture where Cam sat in the orchestra.
“Do you want any help with that?” she asked softly, though she herself didn't understand Shakespeare that well, she had done that year, and passed the exam. Maybe she could help.

Cam nodded understandingly. Physics was tough, but Cam was pretty good at math, and most of physics was math. But she wasn't sure she was qualified to help, besides, she didn't think they were the same year so Cam might not have the skills to help. She watched the other girl's face as she said her name and realized maybe not everyone preferred a nickname to their full name. "Sorry, do you prefer Emmaline?" Cam asked with a sheepish smile. She hated being called Cameron, so she sometimes forgot that some people didn't like nicknames.
"Yeah cello... I forget what you play I'm afraid," Cam admitted softly. Usually she was so in the zone during orchestra that she didn't have time to memorize the random people around her. Orchestra was big though, so really it was amazing Emmaline could figure out what she played anyway.
"Thanks, but I think I'm okay... this website helps," Cam said, gesturing to her computer lightly. Hopefully she could figure it all out in time for her test.

Emma yawned and rubbed her eyes lightly. “Oh.” she started, “I, um, I don't mind either. Emma is totally fine” she smiled polietely. “I'm not really used to people calling me Emma” she chuckled softly. She awkwardly itched a patch of skin on the back of her neck. Then stared at the piece in front of her. She really hated maths.
“I play the flute” she told Cam. “It's quite easy to forget don't worry” she smiled. Emma was finding it quite easy to talk with Cam and was even begininning to feel comfortable, to show this, she shifted down in her seat a little, slouching so her back arched into the chair. She tapped the page with her pen, before scribbling on it.
She pursed her lips lightly, what she wouldn't give to be in the music room right now. Her eyes drifted from word to word, and she felt like whacking her head on the desk. Maybe she should go and talk to that science teacher, Mr Thorne about extra tuition. She just couldn't fall behind. “That is a good website, I think I used it a lot last year” she smiled. “I think I even ended up buying one of the actual copies” she added, “what are you studying... which play?” she asked.
“Do you know happen to what this is?” she asked, looking hopefully at Cam.

Emmaline seemed uncomfortable so Cam just figured she'd call her by her full name until and unless she specified otherwise. Cam could have swoon she went by Emma in class, but maybe she was wrong. In any case, she hated to be rude and didn't like the idea of being overly forward or anything, especially if people found out she was a lesbian. Cam bit her lip. She was trying to be more open here, but she'd been bullied and teased for it before. In any case, she didn't want Emmaline to think she was coming on to her.
"Oh right, the flute," Cam said as if she remembered, but honestly she hadn't known. She hardly knew Emmaline, and was surprised that she even knew her by name. Cam tended to keep to herself, she was a little shy and worried about being the new girl.
"Well, this book has them all, al the plays. So far we've read tragedies, Othello, King Lear, Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth." Cam explained. Magically they were supposed to get through most major works by the end of the year.
Then Emmaline showered her a physics question and Cam bit on the end of her pen absentmindedly while she looked it over. "Well you're solving for tension and acceleration right so... You need the net force divided by the mass, to get A..." Cam bit her lip lightly. "I'm not sure about the tension part."

Emmaline smiled at her, and ran a hand through her fringe. “I enjoy playing the flute,” she shrugged, “I think it sounds pretty” she added, but blushed at her statement. It was so childish. She stared at her text book. She really didn't get science. “Do you do anything else?” she asked, then added to clarify “except the orchestra”
“You're a sophmore?” she asked, she was sure that Cam was the same age as her sister. Though she didn't know if Cam was friends with her dear sister. “Do you like it here?” she asked, trying to be friendly.
“Ahh, I much preffered the tragedies to the comedies, though I have to say I did like reading As You Like It” she told Cam. After a moment, she added “Romeo and Juliet is my favourite of his tragedies, closely tied with Othello”, she licked her upper teeth, wondered whether she could get a drink of water in the library, she had forgotten to put her bottle in her bag “I like Shakespeare, but I have to admit, I prefer the romantic poets, like Keats and Wordsworth – did you know that Keats died when he was 26?” she asked Cam.
She wasn't great at English Literature, but her favourite poet had to be Keats, she could loved his work, and his poem, Bright Star would I were steadfast as thou art, was one of her favourites. She smiled to herself. She did have a admiration for Keats, that may have been a little on the weird side. She thought it was a tragedy that he died young, and never got to be with his love, Fanny Brawne as long as he should have. She also dreamed that she had someone like Keats.
She took the question back and looked at it yet another time, then her mouth formed a small 'o' shape. “Thanks” she grinned, she could get it now. She quickly scribbled down, what she was sure was the correct answer, she made sure to note her working out, they apparently gave marks for that.

Cam smiled. She understood that. Playing the cello was her best escape. She loved the way it sounded. "No, just orchestra." Cameron couldn't understand people who did a million activities here. Wasn't being good at one thing enough? There was no way to excel at everything, and Cam had no intention of trying. "I just wanna devote myself to my music and my studies." She shrugged slightly, trying not to make it sound like a position.
"Yeah, its a very pretty place, and I love learning stuff about America," Cam laughed. As a native of Australia, there seemed to be quite a lot to learn sometimes. "Intense here at the school, though." Cam said. But of course, when you applied to an academy, thats what happened. The people here wanted to be the next big thing in all fields. It was really very intimidating, but Cam was doing her best to seem like she belonged here.
Cam just nodded as Emmaline talked about Shakespeare and Keats, honestly she was terrible at the whole things and couldn't say she really had a favorite. "No, how tragic." Cam said. Dead at 26... Of course, you could get hit by a bus any day, but it still seemed so terrible, the thought of dying young, when there was so much left undone.
"You're welcome," Cam said with a little smile, glad she could help.

Emmaline smiled pleasantly. She totally understood wanting to be devoted to music, and to some extent studies. Mostly just for the music. “Same here, Cam. I mean I think if I did anything else, I would fall behind in my studies, and then I wouldn't be able to play on the orchestra” she reasoned, there was no way that Emmaline could do anything more. She was already struggling.
“I suppose there is a lot to learn” she nodded, Emmaline had lived her most of her life, but she had been born in Ireland, she was somewhat glad that she didn't have an accent to make her stand out. She liked being invisible. She tied her hair back into a ponytail, so that she could study easier, without her hair falling into her eyes.
“It's really intense, right?” she sighed, “But they want the best out of their students so it's gotta be good right?” she added with a thoughtful smile.
“It is very tragic, and what's worse is that his brother had died 4 years earlier of TB, and they think that he contracted it when he was caring for him. Very sad” she mused softly. She hated the idea of dying young, of dying before she had love and a marriage and children and a home. She wanted those things, especially before she died. She may have liked being alone, but she didn't very much like being lonely.
“I mean it Cam, I don't think I would have gotten it, not without going to Mr Thorne anyway” she chuckled lightly.

"Right," Cam agreed with a little nod. Talking with Emmaline seemed a little forced, she wasn't exactly sure what to say. Besides, they were in the library, they'd both come with work to get down.
"Mostly just slang is tricky trying to get used to, and not saying mate as often," Cam said with a chuckle. "I am getting pretty sick of people asking me if I hang out with kangaroos." She chuckled and shook her head. She had seen wild ones before, but you had to go way into the outback for that, it wasn't like they hopped around in the city or something.
Cam just shrugged. No one was going to be their best if they lost their mind or get depressed or something while trying to do it all. That hardly seemed healthy. But then again, maybe a push was a good thing too.
She didn't really want to hear anymore about the grim deaths Emmaline was related so she just nodded politely.
"Oh, I'm not as smart as all that," She said with a shake of her head. Emma would have goten it eventualyl.
