It wasn't that Melody really wanted to be a good friend. Honestly, the roommates were far from friendly. They had different standards for cleaning, musical tastes, discipline and sleep cycles. Frankly, it was an on going battle of trying to let things go. Melody sighed as she heaved open the doors of the art building, at a total loss of where to go. This was so far from her interests that she really felt like a freshman.
Alex had left her keys in the room, and while normally Melody woudn't have cared much except for the fact that Alex kept forgetting her keys and Melody figured she'd save herself the hassle of trying to let Alex in later and fix this now. Alex had terrible timing.
She sighed and tried to remember which class the girl had now, she really should have checked. With a sigh, Melody pulled her phone from her bag and texted Alex: I have your keys, I'm in the art building. Lobby.
Hopefully she'd get the hint and come find her.

OUTFIT
Along with never remembering to be on time for anything, Alex had a habit of forgetting things. Generally little things like the keys to her room. As usual, this morning she'd overslept and had to throw herself together in time to make it to her first class a little late. Also as usual, she'd left her keys behind. Usually, it wasn't an issue for her. Her roommate was pretty good about letting her in. Apparently, though, Melody wasn't in the mood to arrange her schedule to accommodate Alex's eventual return to their room today.
She'd already been playing on her iPhone during class, which was focusing on historical artists today, so she got the text immediately and suppressed a laugh. Was Melody actually missing class to bring her her keys? Stuffing the phone into her pocket, Alex raised her hand and asked permission to use the restroom. Pass in hand (she had to do some things by the book), she headed toward the lobby of the building. Melody wasn't hard to spot. Just follow the gaze of the poor unsuspecting artistic boys and the shining goddess of popularity would be the focus.
"Seriously? Don't you have a class right now, too?" Alex demanded, stopping in front of her roommate. She held out her hand in expectation of her keys, not bothering to thank the girl. Saying thank you generally left one with the feeling of owing something to another person, and Alex wasn't too keen on that feeling. She tapped her foot impatiently and swept her gaze over the girl, who looked infinitely more put together than Alex would have even if she'd allowed herself the time. "Do you have a hot date later that you can't get away from long enough to let me in?" she asked, tilting her head to the side and smirking at the girl. Melody didn't have a boyfriend. Not one that she openly claimed, anyway, but Alex was sure she was seeing someone. She spent too much time with her whereabouts unaccounted for to truly be single. [/size]

Melody rolled her eyes. "As if I'd skip class for you." Alex wasn't a bad person really. Honestly, they were also quite alike-- stubborn, powerful and bold. It led to some fights for dominance, even if they weren't aware they were happening. "I have tennis practice later." Melody wasn't about to leave class for Alex, much less practice. Tennis was her thing, and she was so close to being nationally recognized. Scouts for next year's majors were looking around and she was going to make it and have it all. Alex forgetting her keys, would not get in her way. If Alex thought for about half a second, she might realize that Melody was trying to be helpful. She could have let Alex be locked out all evening when she was practicing.
Melody rolled her eyes at the boyfriend comment. Really, she had a sugar daddy more than much else. There were significant perks to sleeping with the dean. Not like she could own up to it anyway, though it was tempting to rub it in Alex's face. Maybe he could get her a single? "You're just jealous that you don't have a date." She decided flatly.
It was no secret that Alex was gay. No one ever said it, but no one ever contested it. Melody didn't care much really. She liked being looked at. Alex wouldn't try to sleep with her or something, she was stupid.

Alex couldn't help but let out a chuckle. Her roommate was appropriately offended by the implication that she had skipped class to deliver Alex's keys. Really, their banter was more amusing to Alex than anything, so she did her best to help keep it up. "Oh, that's right! You've got high up connections so you don't have to do things in the mornings!" Alex teased. She had no proof that Melody was connected with anyone. Like most other students there, her family's money was probably enough of a connection to get her what she wanted, though.
Tennis practice might really have been a decent excuse, but it wasn't a fun one, and Alex wasn't prepared to let things drop at that, so she'd seen fit to bring up other options. For example, a secret boyfriend with which Melody might be planning a rendezvous that evening. It seemed unlikely. For all their similarities (which neither girl would likely own up to), they were different in very important matters. Melody tended to follow rules where Alex publicly broke them regularly. Even so, Alex was sure there was a badass lurking beneath the other girl's surface. They couldn't have so much in common and really be different in that manner.
Of course, the fact that they were not friends meant that even if Melody did have a secret boyfriend, she wouldn't tell Alex about it. She was probably smart enough to know that she might find gossip scrawled in sharpie on a bathroom wall later if she did. Unless it was juicy enough to keep quiet about, anyway. Melody's response drew another short laugh from Alex's lips. Jealous? She started to argue, her mouth open in wait of something witty to come out of it, but realized just as quickly that Melody was at least partially right. Being one of the few openly homosexual people at a school like this made for a stunning lack of action. (Okay, openly is likely the wrong word. Alex didn't exactly run around broadcasting her sexuality, but she never bothered to contradict the rumors that circulated about her, and if asked, she would certainly be clear about it.) Finally, she let out a cool laugh and smirked at her roommate. "How cute. You actually think I'm the dating type," she cooed, reluctant to admit that she actually was. It was infinitely easier to be sarcastic in her denial than to admit that she might ever need someone.

Melody rolled her eyes. "Will you shut up about my 'connections'?" She hissed. Alex seemed to have noticed that she could get away with more than an average student, and she was going to make things really difficult. Melody wasn't sure if he knowing or not knowing was better. "Besides, some of us can plan a good schedule." Melody said. As a senior she got slightly more free time anyway.
It really was funny, how alike they really were. In another world, they could probably be friends. They were both so stubborn and determined. They'd really make a good team if they both stopped trying to be the alpha for half a second.
At Alex's next comment, she rolled her eyes. "If you were a slut, I'd know by now." Melody pointed out. If Alex was having girls over, different girls, Melody would have noticed.
